The Challenge

Large metering points need more
than standard remote reading.

In the context of gas stations, water metering shafts and decentralised installations, standard data loggers often fall short. What is needed are systems that work reliably even under demanding conditions.

Typical Challenges
Operation in hazardous areas – elevated safety requirements
No local power supply at the metering point
High effort for manual reading and on-site service
Different meter and signal interfaces (encoder, pulse, RS485)
Requirements for stable, long-term data transmission
Data gaps with other devices – operational consequences
With VERIBOX-MINI
ATEX-compliant solution for critical environments – Zone 1 + Zone 2
Fully battery-powered – no power connection required
Fewer service calls thanks to 6+ years battery life
Flexible integration: Pulse, Analogue, Serial TTL / RS232 / RS485, Absolute Encoder, Grey Code, Namur and more
Robust data transmission with auto-fallback 4G → 3G → 2G
Data buffer + re-transmission – no gaps in the load profile

Technical Superiority

Why utility companies rely on
the VERIBOX-MINI.

01
ATEX Zone 1. Battery-powered. Operated directly in the Ex Zone – including communication.
The combination of ATEX Zone 1 certification and full battery operation is unique on the market. The device operates directly in Ex Zone 1 – including the entire communication, without external power supply. Gas stations typically have no mains connection. Other solutions require external power or are only certified for Zone 2.
Field reference · Energie AG / Netz OÖ
"Most gas stations have no mains connection – and the device is ATEX ExZone1 certified and can therefore be deployed directly."
02
30 years of field experience. Continuous development. No end-of-life.
No newly launched IoT product can claim 30 years of documented field reliability in ATEX Zone 1. VERAUT continuously develops both firmware and hardware – updates available years after deployment, unlike Chinese products that stop receiving updates after 1–2 years. Over 39,500 installations across Europe, the Americas and Australia.
Field reference · Long-term customer
"Even after years of operation, data transmission shows no failures or weaknesses whatsoever."
03
Serial interface direct. All common volume converters. No converter required.
Other ATEX loggers read pulses. The VERIBOX-MINI reads volume converters (EVCs) directly via RS232/RS485/TTL – the interfaces actually present at large gas stations. No converter, no adapter cable, no additional failure point. Compatible with all common EVC models on the market.

Why VERIBOX-MINI

What counts in the field: Safety,
stability and low operational effort.

The VERIBOX-MINI was not developed for short-term pilot applications, but for metering points where technical reliability and dependable operation over years are decisive.

01
ATEX-certified for critical deployment areas
The VERIBOX-MINI is designed for applications where hazardous areas must be taken into account. This makes it suitable for gas infrastructure and other safety-critical measurement environments – Zone 1 and Zone 2 – where standard solutions cannot or may not be deployed.
02
Field-proven solution for long-term deployment
The strength of the VERIBOX-MINI lies not in short-term feature promises, but in its operational value over long periods. Field-proven since 1996 – this reduces project risks and builds confidence among technical decision-makers and safety managers.
03
Stable data transmission for reliable monitoring
Particularly at remote or difficult-to-access metering points, reliable data communication is critical. The VERIBOX-MINI is designed for dependable data provision in practical operation – with auto-fallback 4G → 3G → 2G and local data buffer.
04
6+ years battery life with daily load profile
The long service life reduces maintenance and replacement intervals and improves the economics of decentralised rollouts. At gas stations without power supply: service visit only every ~5 years – for battery replacement, not for fault rectification.

"Deploying VERAUT's AMR solution was the smartest decision we have ever made. Although devices from many different manufacturers had previously been used, none of them worked reliably. Only with the VERIBOX-MINI did the remote reading of volume converters and other operational data work flawlessly and without any issues. I would say the VERIBOX-MINI is maintenance-free – we only need to visit the gas station every 5 years for the battery replacement."

VERIBOX-MINI vs. Standard Solution

Why VERIBOX-MINI is the better choice
for critical metering points.

Not every remote reading solution is designed for Ex areas, large metering points or long-term autonomous operating cycles. The VERIBOX-MINI addresses exactly these requirements.

"The VERIBOX-MINI excels where operational safety, technical suitability and long-term reliability matter more than feature lists or short-term procurement logic."

Frequently Asked Questions

Technical questions –
answered directly.

For which applications is the VERIBOX-MINI particularly suitable?
Primarily for gas and water applications with elevated requirements for safety, robustness and long-term stable data acquisition – especially large gas stations, transfer points, volume converter applications and decentralised water metering shafts.
Which ATEX zones is the VERIBOX-MINI certified for?
Zone 1 and Zone 2 – classification Ex II 2G Ex ib IIA T2 Gb. Zone 1 allows direct deployment at gas stations and in volume converter shafts without additional Ex protective enclosures. Most competitors are only certified for Zone 2.
How long does the battery really last?
With a daily load profile (hourly recording, 24 records/day) over 6 years. Energie AG / Netz OÖ confirms service intervals of ~5 years – exclusively for battery replacement, not for fault rectification.
Which meters and volume converters can be read?
Directly via RS232/RS485 (EVC/volume converters) or absolute encoder. Pulse-based meters via reed/S0/pulse. Analogue signals 0–20 mA and 0–10 VDC for pressure and process values. Manufacturer-independent – no converter required.
Is the VERIBOX-MINI compliant with regulatory requirements?
Yes. The hourly load profile acquisition on the hour meets the requirements of the European Energy Efficiency Directive for large gas consumers. Energie AG transmits load profiles directly to the Austrian regulator E-Control – fully automated.
Is a gateway or own server required?
No. Direct transmission via 4G/3G/2G to the VERILOG Dashboard or your backend. No gateway, no own server. MQTT and HTTP enable direct integration into SCADA, HES and ERP systems.
What happens with poor network coverage?
Automatic switchover: 4G LTE → 3G UMTS → 2G GPRS/CSD. All data points are buffered locally and automatically re-transmitted after reconnection. No gaps in the load profile.
Can the VERIBOX-MINI be integrated into existing systems?
Yes. The solution is designed for professional AMR and monitoring processes. MQTT, HTTP and GPRS enable direct integration into existing SCADA, HES, MDM and ERP environments – without complex middleware.
