VUSWM
Ultrasonic Meter for
Water and Heat
The VUSWM is a high-precision ultrasonic water meter and heat meter for the reliable measurement of water and heat volumes – from residential metering at DN15 to large-scale measurement at DN600. Designed for modern Smart Metering and AMR infrastructures with flexible connectivity and long-term operational stability.

Ultrasonic Water Meter
and Heat Meter. One system.
The VUSWM is available as an ultrasonic water meter for cold and hot water, and as an ultrasonic heat meter for district heating and building services – same platform, same connectivity, same service level.
No moving parts.
No wear. Ever.
The VUSWM uses the ultrasonic transit-time difference method: two transducers send ultrasonic pulses with and against the flow direction. The transit-time difference is exactly proportional to the flow velocity – without any mechanical component in the measuring tube. The result: consistently high accuracy throughout the entire service life.

From DN15 to DN600 –
one ultrasonic meter for every metering point.
No other ultrasonic water meter covers this nominal size range with a single unified system. From residential metering to large-scale water supply – same measurement technology, same connectivity, seamless integration.
Four properties that matter
in everyday utility operations.
The VUSWM was not designed for demo rooms – it was built for continuous operation at thousands of metering points, with minimal maintenance and maximum data availability.
6 communication variants –
for every AMR infrastructure.
The VUSWM is available in all common communication variants – from direct NB-IoT cloud transmission to local M-Bus reading in existing systems. Hybrid variants provide redundancy and flexibility.

Why ultrasonic is the better
choice for modern AMR networks.
Mechanical meters are proven – but for Smart Metering, long service life and precise billing, the technology reaches its limits.
| Criterion | VUSWM Ultrasonic | Mechanical meter |
|---|---|---|
| Wear / maintenance | ✓ No moving parts | Turbines, bearings – wear from day 1 |
| Long-term accuracy | ✓ Constant over service life | Drift through wear unavoidable |
| Minimum flow | ✓ R800 – very low detectable | Start-up losses at low flow |
| Pressure loss | ✓ Minimal (straight tube) | Increased resistance through mechanics |
| Smart Metering connectivity | ✓ NB-IoT · LoRa · wM-Bus factory-fitted | Retrofit required, often limited |
| Leakage / reverse flow detection | ✓ Integrated alarm management | Not standard |
| Battery life | ✓ 13+ years | Depending on radio module |
| Integrated data storage | ✓ 720 days | Usually limited or not available |
| Stainless steelmessrohr | ✓ Standard | Usually plastic or brass |
