NB-IoT communication for compact integrations

The NB IoT Box MICRO is the smallest variant of the platform and uses a TTL 3 V MCU for quick, space-saving integration into existing systems—without external gateways.

  • NB-IoT (LTE Cat-NB2) for deep indoor penetration and reliable delivery
  • Hourly reads as standard (configurable)—buffered and fault-tolerant
  • VERAUT’s dynamic power management for long battery life

Use cases & industries

For embedded/board integrations, compact measuring points, and OEM devices.

Embedded

Direct connection to boards/MCUs via TTL 3 V.

OEM integration

Rapid integration into devices/modules—minimal footprint.

Low power

Optimized for long runtimes with predictable transmissions.

How the NB IoT Box MICRO works

TTL signals are captured, buffered locally, and transmitted without a gateway via NB-IoT to the cloud. The system is designed for hourly transmission and minimal load—with retry mechanisms for network interruptions.

Signal flow: Sensor → TTL 3 V → MCU → Power management → NB-IoT → Cloud/Backend

NB-IoT: technology & advantages

  • Deep indoor penetration thanks to narrowband technology
  • Low energy consumption via PSM/eDRX operating modes
  • Network coverage via cellular—no private gateway infrastructure needed
  • Reliable delivery and retries for temporary outages

VERAUT’s dynamic power management

Power management adapts wake, measurement, and transmission cycles to the application. This maximizes sleep phases, minimizes active times, and uses the battery efficiently.

  • Optimized wake cycles for hourly measurement/transmission intervals
  • Configurable transmission and retransmit strategies
  • Buffering when the network is unavailable, deferred synchronization

Data transmission & intervals

By default, hourly reads are performed (configurable). If the network is temporarily impaired, data is buffered locally and transmitted later. Support for common protocols and data formats for connection to cloud/backend.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Do I need a gateway?

No, the MICRO sends directly to the cloud via NB-IoT.

Does it support other I/Os?

The MICRO focuses on TTL 3 V. For DI/AI/RS-485 we recommend the MINI.

How does the hourly reading work?

The device wakes at fixed intervals, reads the measurements, sends them via NB-IoT, and returns to power-saving mode. Intervals can be customized per project.

What happens during network interruptions?

Data is buffered locally and transmitted later. Retries occur according to configuration to ensure reliable delivery.
