The vehicle registers via cellular/Sub-GHz, approaches the intersection and requests prioritized green.
AM.COM – Green Lights for Emergency Vehicles
Prioritized signal control for fire, ambulance & police
AM.COM shortens response times, increases safety at intersections, and integrates with existing control systems. Vehicles register automatically, request priority at the next traffic signal, and—depending on traffic and safety logic—receive preferential green.
Faster & safer through intersections
AM.COM moves emergency vehicles forward quickly and safely. Prioritized signal switching reduces dangerous situations, guides convoys better, and avoids congestion. The solution is modular and adapts to local traffic signal technology.
Features & characteristics
Safety logic
Releases only within safe windows (interlocks, minimum red times, conflict groups) – compatible with applicable traffic regulations/traffic signal technology.
Control system integration
Connection to existing controllers/control centers (e.g., traffic controllers, I/O or serial/ETH interfaces).
Geofencing & GPS
Activation via geo-zones/direction of approach, optionally with fallback to manual request.
Roles & permissions
Authorization by vehicle/organization, logging, and traceability (audit trail).
Analytics
Statistics on approaches, release times, intersection passes – basis for optimization & reporting.
Process & architecture
The on-board unit (OBU) in the emergency vehicle continuously transmits position, direction of travel and status (e.g., emergency signal) to the AM.COM server. In real time it calculates the nearest, likely reachable traffic signals and registers the vehicle there. Green phases/offsets are temporarily adjusted according to the local safety logic (e.g., moderate extension/shortening of phases by approx. 10% depending on the controller), so the vehicle can pass the intersection under green where possible.
If the vehicle changes direction, AM.COM immediately deregisters non-relevant signals and registers at newly relevant junctions. A destination is not required – decisions are made dynamically based on current movement. The traffic signal is actuated on a project-specific basis (digital I/O, serial/Ethernet), optionally with secure brokering via the cloud. All traffic-engineering safety interlocks (minimum red times, conflict groups, etc.) remain in place.
On-board unit → AM.COM server → traffic signal controller → prioritized green phase.
Measurable value
Shorter travel times thanks to prioritized intersection crossings (project-specific).
Fewer red-light passes & dangerous situations at junctions.
Robust communications & clear fallback strategies.
Connection to control centers/backends for monitoring and reporting.
Interfaces & integration
Connectivity to the AM.COM server
Secure vehicle ↔ AM.COM connection (TLS/VPN). Events, geofences & prioritization are centrally coordinated; API for control centers.
On-board unit
GPS/geofence, status inputs (emergency signal), secure authentication, simple installation in the emergency vehicle.
Traffic signal controller
Actuation depending on infrastructure via digital I/O, serial/Ethernet or standardized protocols (project-specific).
Typical use cases
Emergency medical services
Faster arrival at hospitals, fewer risky intersection crossings.
Fire service
Quicker turnout for fire/technical operations, safe convoy guidance.
Police & municipalities
Improve traffic flow during incidents, reduce public transport delays (optional).

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
How is the green phase requested?
The OBU triggers a prioritized request on approach (GPS/geofence or manual). The signal switches—within the traffic-engineering safety logic—to a phase favorable for the vehicle.
Is the solution compatible with existing signal controllers?
Yes. Integration is project-specific via digital I/O, serial/Ethernet interfaces or existing modules. We adapt the interface to the respective controller.
How is misuse prevented?
Vehicles/organizations are uniquely authorized; all events are logged. Safety logics (interlocks, minimum red times, conflict groups) remain unaffected.
Is a cloud strictly required?
Yes. The AM.COM cloud is a central component: it determines reachable junctions in real time, performs signal registrations and control centrally, manages permissions/logs and provides analytics.
